Some people have said very nice things about the book . . .
Linux
System Administration A User's Guide by Marcel Gagne would be the first book I
put into any newby Linux systems administrator's hands. -- Caroline Brossi

It seems
hard to write in introduction to Linux or Linux administration, that is both
easy to read and covers most important subjects. Marcel Gagné has succeeded in
writing such a book. -- Egon Willighagen, Linux Focus

I know that
the greatest challenge awaiting a writer in this field is the way to present the
technical information that users need to know without getting so technical as to
lose your audience along the way. This book meets that challenge and does it
superbly. All the time I was reading it, I kept saying to myself: "Yes - this is
best way to explain it!" -- Michael J. Jordan, Linux Online.

"I really
like Gagne's book. But I need to confess that I was on of those Addison Wesley
had read the manuscript, and I'm thanked in the acknowledgements. I like the
first chapters when I saw them; I like the finished book. Anyone who's read
Gagne's column in Linux Journal knows that he's knowledgeable, witty, and
jocular. The volume reflects all these aspects of his personality. The book is
well organized, yet I'm not certain that it's really suitable for a raw
beginner. I think that if you are more than a real newbie, this is the very
best book on Linux system administration I have seen. And it is up-to-date but
eschews vendor specificity. Really nice job, Marcel." -- Peter H. Salus,

magazine. You can also download a PDF version of the document by

"Gagne is
clearly an insider in the Linux community, familiar with both the technical
details and the culture, which sets this book apart from others in the
field." --Joseph Sloan, Lead System Administrator, Mirai Consulting
"As a
person who is into Linux for some time now, I can honestly tell you that this
book has a lot to offer. Sure, it could offer even more, but then you'd have to
rent a truck to go and pick it up at the bookstore, as the size would demand it.
Still, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the stuff that dreams are made of,
but it comes quite close for anyone interested in this subject." --

"There was
no mention of teaching experience in the author's bio information on the back
cover. Doesn't matter. He is obviously an educator, and a very good one, whether
or not he ever stood in front of a class or has whatever passes for official
credentials. He knows Linux and writes about it in a practical, engaging style
that enables the reader to learn rather than be taught or lectured at, and to
enjoy themselves in the process. It's one thing to know and talk about a
subject, and it's another process entirely to be able to impart that knowledge
to others. -- Carlie, LinuxIso.Org

"The book is published by Addison-Wesley and written by the inimitable Marcel Gagné. If you have never read any of Gagné's Cooking with Linux articles in LinuxJournal, you've missed out. Gagné's alter-ego and his long-suffering assistant François offer some of the funniest dialogue in the Journal, while still managing to provide useful Linux information." - David F. "This book will help people who are either administrating their home Linux system or are the Linux administrator for their office. If your in the office environment, you will be asked to get the Linux network to do many different things for many different people. You need a book like this one that will educate you so that you can make all the people in your office environment happy and be able to set up their systems for their needs.
