Suse 10 problem

Suse 10.0 problems

Thank you Marcel for replying. Digging around in Control Centre I found the 2 places where I had to choose the KDE Desktop to boot. (By the way, I did not have a log in screen where I could choose. That was part of my problem.) I have booted fine EXCEPT... I ran into problems when I tried to update to KDE 3.5. I downloaded the packages from the website. I thought I would not need the dev packages, since I am not intending to develop the distro, used the tip I read on your website about choosing a different source directory. I chose a folder I created called KDE 3.5, moved all the 3.5 RPMs into it, and installed. Obviously I did not have all the required packages and booted into a malformed desktop with many things not functioning. The only solution I could see was to re-intall Suse 10.0.
I did that, chose KDE this time, and booted into a nice desktop. However, where before I had a little icon in the gnome taskbar that showed that my network connection was not connected, and I would proceed to maually chose the ethernet connection to enable it, and this icon carried over to my KDE 3.4 taskbar, in this fresh installation I had no such icon, and have been unable to get on the internet since. The network card is configured as it was previously, I have gone through every KDE Control Center option, to no avail. I was considering ordering a tutorial cd available from PCTech 101. I have read your new book, which is very helpful, but does not specifically address this situation. I was also interested in the post on your page by the fellow who instally Linspire on his wife's machine. I am a fairly experienced Windows user who would like to use Linux, but am not able to devote hours and hours to getting simple installation accomplished. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
