Back-UPS

I am new Linux(SUSE 10) from Windows XP. I am enjoying Marcel's new book(also enjoyed your 2 hr interview on Computer Am.) Have question for you or anyone with ideas on Back-UPS. I live in Florida, a place with lots of interrupted power to my house. With XP I set program to automatically shut down when I lose power. How do Linux users approach this? My computer stays on all time.

Thanks,
pwc

Well I have 4 computers in

Well I have 4 computers in the house, each one has a UPS by a different mfgr. Usually purchased at sale time. They all have usb communications and work to different degrees under Linux. One has Linux software by the mfgr, just text display but tells the exact same story as the visual Wind. stuff and shutdown works ok. Another is supported by the 'nut' project and the shutdown can be scheduled, The other has kinda crappy mfgr software but can be scheduled to shutdown and report. The last one is windows only and I have programmed it with my laptop which doesn't have to be connected thereafter. I cannot get any infor from it, but thats ok, it has shutdown on the only long power outage we have had in several years. They have all kept the computers powered for the normal short outages we get once or twice a year. Still to purchase another for the new Home Theatre Equipment, more expensive than any of my computers.

None of my units are APC or even more expensive Tripp. All have AVR which is a nice feature for a few extra $.
