Back-UPS

I am new Linux(SUSE 10) from Windows XP. I am enjoying Marcel's new book(also enjoyed your 2 hr interview on Computer Am.) Have question for you or anyone with ideas on Back-UPS. I live in Florida, a place with lots of interrupted power to my house. With XP I set program to automatically shut down when I lose power. How do Linux users approach this? My computer stays on all time.

Thanks,

Back-UPS

Thanks Merv, I've been reading about some of the things you mentioned and even though every thing about Linux at this point is vague, at least now I know there is a way and I can dig out the specifics eventually. My XP setup was easy(of course Windows software was included with APC package) and works good, Linux seems more complicated at this point. I've got to find and install some strange software pkg that matches certain Serial cables on APC's UPS. I think maybe going out and buying a new usb type that is Linux ready might be the simple way out.
