Being distro agnostic in distros to entice new users used to be tough. Thanks to the attention that has been given to the desktop it is much easier. Yeah, I have a first choice for most new users, but I agree that it is important to know that one size does not always fit all.
I tire of distro wars. If you find something that works for you, great! Slackware and gentoo are oodles of fun, but it is not something I would give to my mom. Thankfully, there are many distros that WILL work for mom, the bus driver, the single parent, etc.
I appreciate your explanation on why you decided to write a distro specific book, thank you.
