I have a dell notebook with a modem with a conextant chip,is their any linux distro that will work with that modem without installing any extra drivers ? Just install linux and dialup. |

If you have a WinModem I'd say no, if it's an external serial modem (unlikely for a laptop) it should be supported or try Linmodems.org for support and more info, but even so I think Conexant modems are even harder to configure and set up, look at Linuxant.com for info.
I tried to get a WinModem working but in the end I found an external serial modem. Now I have high speed.
You should also check out other Linux forums too but I don't think you'll find much more information there either other than people tellng you to go to Linmodem.org or get an external serial modem.
Modems seem to be a skeleton in Linux's closet, no one likes to talk about it, although it's less of an issue these days since high speed has replaced the need for a modem.
