Sadly, there isn't an easy way to do this. Choosing to use a DVD over a CD was, in the end, a question of market pressures. Publishers, mine included, have noticed that books with DVDs are purchased where those with CDs stay on the shelf. Furthermore, the DVD contains all the supported software in the Ubuntu repository. You could have some free CDs sent to you directly from Canonical but that can take a few weeks. Alternatively, you could order one from somebody like OSDics.com (disclaimer : I have never worked with these people) who charges $1.95 for an Ubuntu CD but will presumably get it to you sooner. There are other companies who do the same thing, by the way, such as LinuxCD.org and Cheap*Bytes to name a few.

Good luck! -- Marcel
