Ubuntu Ultimate sounds real nice - everything you need - restricted and unrestricted applications. Instructions to add repos to Ubuntu's great updating system. NOT This distro is a "hobby system" at best. I can recommend this Linux implementation to "hobby"friends, but not someone who can be a potential satisfied "convert" and only wants a OS that works. Here is why: This disto is so bloated with apps that it becomes confusing as to what is the best choice, for example, viewing an MPEG file. Why can't movie player, which plays EVERYTHING in UBUNTU 7.04, plays less than 20% of the formats - even with added libraries? Beryl, the great 3D app, conflicts with other video based programs in both an intel system and a nvidia system (I'm talking about video cards . . .) disables any other motion vid ap - on my dell 1501 and my AMD DC home brew SATA-2 MotherF****** In the least amount of verbiage: Stay with official releases of UBUNTU/EDUBUNTU/KUBUNTU. That is my recommendation - unless of course you like to play with problems . . . 8^) |
