Hi there:
I wonder if I can get help on the following please:
- HW: TOSHIBA Satellite (Celeron M processor).
- SW: CD-ROM Knoppix for dual reboot with Windows XP. CD came with book Moving to Linux.
The systems freezes in the boot up process when the error message appears "PCMCIA found, starting cardmgr.".
Can anyone tell me what I am missing please?
Thanks.
Re: Error message: PCMCIA found, starting cardmgr
Hello cemaj,
First thanks for purchasing the book. You didn't mention which edition of the book, but this solution would work with either. To be honest, I'm not sure why your particular Toshiba notebook is freezing with this particular issue, but I may have a way around the problem. You might have noticed when the boot prompt came up that it said "Press F2 for help". Pressing F2 will show you some of the more common cheat codes. In your care, you might try typing the following at the boot prompt:
This will disable the pcmcia code at boot time (essentially skipping PCMCIA harware detection) and allow the system to continue booting. In case you are curious, you can check out this list of cheat codes.
Let me know how it works out.
