hi, i got to the linux desktop off the cd from the book. it went fine except for an insmod i810 failure (something to do with audio. who cares?). i don't have an ethernet anything (as i believe they were invented after my warranty ran out), so i need linux to locate some kind of driver. looking for that was pretty painless (it was something called 'advanced power managment BIOS support'among a number of choices). it asked if i wanted to remove it from the shell, or kernel (can't remember which). i answered yes and got an error message saying it was either in use, or not responding. i tried several times with APM both disabled and enabled. any ideas? i have a four year old gateway piece of crap, 10gig hardrive, 256 and windows ME. |
