Hi there: |

bear with me here - first time posting and all. I was trying to start up the software from the disk included with my shiny new book. "Moving to Linux" 2nd Edition. When I got this pesky failure (forgive any case errors as I wrote this down in a bit of a hurry Last three lines from the screen before the install quit. cloop: Read Error at pos 157567913 in file /cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX, 28372 bytes lost I tried to install a couple of ways, one as the book suggested (press enter at the boot: prompt) and then I went into the f3 menu to see if there was anything special to try so I tried the following |

I am new to Linux and am tring to install Fedora on some systems that were donated to our church. I had loaded XP on a couple of systems and then loaded Fedora on a couple others. Since these were donated computers, I don't have a license for these machines (XP) and wanted to install Fedora on the others. I had no problems with the systems that I loaded Fedora on initially, but the first one (XP) that I tried to load Fedora on that had XP on it has only a 10 Gig hard drive and I don't want to dual boot these systems, so I told it to write over the existing system (XP). It went fine until the reboot, and it won't boot the error I get is: "Error loading operating system" |

I am a true newbie to Linux, trying to switch from "that other operating system." I have a DLink wireless card, but I don't know how to go about getting Knoppix to recognize it. I found one post on-line that says "create a configuration file" with a described code. Problem is, I don't know how even to create a file yet. Is there a "how to" get Knoppix to recognize a wireless card out there somewhere that I've not stumbled on? The card is a DLink DWL-G650. Don |

OK, I thought I'd move Michael's "things to do before I die" list here so we can all discuss / read / whatever. Here's my entry (mine in BOLD). Truthfully answered, I've done more than I realised, but not as much as I wanted to...; |

I came across Marcel's article on Multifax, and it seems to be exactly what I need for my home network. But unfortunately, all links to download it have either disappeared or are invalid. Is it still available??? Marc |

Bonjour Marcel, I've set-up MySQL,Apache, Samba, Image manipulation tool, Radius server, etc... I don't to loose all that setup... Is there a comercial solution to backup a home based Linux installation to CDs/DVDs, which I could boot from CD/DVD in case of a system crash and re-install quickly my Linux installation? How do people backup their system without re-installing Linux? I'm not a TAR fan(i.e. expert)... Merci!!! Guy |
