In early June of 2005 (or was it late May), I launched a logo contest for the WFTL-LUG. In the discussions relating to the LUG logo, somebody asked whether we might not consider changing the name of the WFTL-LUG to WFTLUG. The acronym would then mean "World Free Thinkers Linux User Group". Much conversation ensued, both for an against but it did bring up a fun sort of idea. A little back story first . . .
I have personalized license plates with the initials "WFTL" on them. People who don't know about the WFTL thing almost always assume that the "FTL" part means "Faster Than Light". It's the "W" they have trouble with. So I tell them it means "Way" as in "Way Faster Than Light".
In an alternate universe, WFTL might mean some of the following.
- Way Faster Than Light
- We Feel The Love
- Windows Free & and Totally Linux!
I'm still partial to the first one, but "Windows Free & Totally Linux" is a close second.
