WFTL IRC (and Monday) Chats

Every Monday night (almost), I run an informal chat -- okay, sometimes, it's Tuesday night. All WFTL-LUG (and WFTL-ANNOUNCE) members are invited to participate. Subjects vary, but for the most part, these are Linux chats although they do not have to deal specifically with my articles (current or past). Almost any topic is acceptable here. The official time is 7:30 pm Eastern (00:30 UTC for those outside this area) and the chats run for 90 minutes, ending at 9:00 pm Eastern (02:00 UTC). Generally speaking, however, the chat does tend to go on for longer periods.

For the next couple of months (it's late June as I write this), the chat will start at 8:00 and run until around 10:00 pm.

Using your favorite IRC client (xchat, ksirc, kvirc, etc), connect to the IRC server at chat.marcelgagne.com, port 6667 (the default IRC port). On the off chance that you don't already have an IRC client (or you can't use one from your location), I provide a Java IRC client at the following address.

http://www.marcelgagne.com/wftl-lug/WFTLIRC/index.html

There's really only one channel there and the welcome page will tell you that, but to get to the chat, type the following in your IRC client's command window.

     /join #wftlchat

That's it. You're on. Using this client, you are assigned an anonymous nickname. To change it to yourname (where yourname is your own name or the nick of your choice), type the following after connecting.

     /nick yourname

The IRC channel is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Although I won't promise to always be there, you can visit at any time and chat all you want.
